Initial setup took 5 minutes and was flawless - a very well thought out device! updated to 1.7.14 no problem.
I’m initially using it with my iPad Mini 7 (ipad os 26.6) but it also works fine with my Android phone. So, questions:
The iPad uses my WiFi connection and I wanted to try the plugmate virtualisation, so I set my location to Mount Vesuvius. It survives reboots. If I then go to a “show my IP and location web site it still shows my location as my real one. Am I doing something wrong?
I’ve disabled the Google Play Store system and am currently using F-droid. If I install an app from the PlugOS app installer, is it installing from F-droid or from a PlugOS repository?
Is there any way to copy backups taken on the iPad to another device and then restore them to the new device?
PlugMate spoofs only GPS/satellite location coordinates. Websites resolve geographic location based on the public IP address. Since PlugMate uses the host device as a network gateway, all traffic passes through the iPad’s real‑world Wi‑Fi, so websites will still display your actual location. If you want location queries based on IP to also show a virtual address, you may use a third‑party VPN.
With GMS disabled, the PlugOS Apps installer uses the native PlugOS repository. You can install F‑Droid via the PlugOS Apps app, then install your desired applications from within F‑Droid, these were installed from the F‑Droid repository.
Backups created on the iPad can be copied to another device and restored on the new device.You can find the backup file path in PlugClaw Client APP→Me.
Thank you @jack. That all makes sense. As regards app installation I need to try and standardise on one source if possible, purely for ease of updating.
