Why PlugOS is still based on Android 14, it should be android 16, most of the AOSP based project already moved to android 16, which is more optimized and secure, and also kernel version should also be updated, as mostly privacy focused comes with updated android AOSP and updated kernel version?

Thank you very much for your interest in PlugMate and your valuable feedback. The new Android releases do bring notable improvements in security and privacy protection. PlugOS does not directly use standard AOSP. Instead, it is deeply customized based on the Android base layer, with additional security and privacy hardening across multiple dimensions including authentication mechanisms, permission control, data encryption, and GMS toggle management.Upgrading the system to a newer Android version is not a simple code replacement. It requires extensive adaptation, performance testing and relevant certification work, which takes a long time. At this stage, our Android 14-based PlugOS will continue to receive iterative updates. Meanwhile, the porting and upgrade to newer Android versions is included in our product roadmap and will be rolled out once development matures.

I agree with your point,

I agree, it is not an easy task. but if you guys are using GRF model, it could be easy to update to latest AOSP version. actually i am in security domain, and received multiple feedback from my community members regarding this, so thought to share.

like people prefer the device having latest kernel update and OS update, so may be in future that would be really helpful, if you provide android OS updates, along with kernel and baseband updates, security people likes the most. thank you.

and yes if it is in product roadmap or in expected launch, keep update your roadmap timelines somewhere it will be helpful for people to decide the purchase. just a suggestion.

and I also have a doubt on Helio G80, whether it will able to handle android 16 later or not? because slowly some apps will start asking for latest version of android OS? but i am hoping plugmate team will be able to strip it heavy things and make the suitable android 16 for helio G80

Thanks again for sharing — this is really useful for us. As you know, upgrading Android on the Helio G80 is challenging. We need extensive development and testing to figure out which Android versions the G80 can support. We will assess possible solutions first, and define clear release targets once a solution is confirmed.

my pleasure, one more info, recently Volla Phone 22 received the android 16 update few months ago, (privacy focused customized AOSP). and it is running smooth, they are also using Helio G85 (the Helio G85 and Helio G80 are mostly identical.), so i believe it is possible, if we strip out all uncessary things from android 16 AOSP with latest kernel blobs provided by mediatek. it should work fine.
