Hi everyone.
We’re excited to officially introduce PlugClaw, a new kind of AI computer built on PlugOS.
As many of you know, we’ve spent the last few years building PlugOS and PlugMate - a hardware‑isolated private workspace that keeps your digital life separate from your phone or computer. With PlugClaw, we’re taking that same foundation and extending it into the AI era.
What is PlugClaw?
PlugClaw is a thumb-sized USB-C device that is, at its heart, a complete and secure Android computer - with its own processor, memory, encrypted storage, and PlugOS.
What makes it different is that it comes with a built-in AI agent that can actually do things. It can open apps, reply to messages, organize files, browse the web, and execute multi-step workflows on your behalf.
You simply plug it into a smartphone, tablet, or computer, tell it what you want in plain language, and PlugClaw gets to work.
The AI lives and works on the PlugClaw itself, rather than running directly on your personal devices.
Why we built PlugClaw?
We’ve been watching the AI space closely, and we kept hearing the same frustrations:
-
AI is great at answering questions, but it doesn’t actually finish tasks.
-
Running AI agents on your personal device feels risky - permissions, data access, privacy.
-
Cloud AI is powerful, but handing over sensitive credentials and personal data to remote servers doesn’t sit well.
So we built PlugClaw to fix all three. It gives AI its own physically isolated, trusted workspace - so you get the power of frontier AI without the risks.

Private AI, without vendor lock-in
Security and privacy have always been at the center of what we build, and PlugClaw is no exception.
For cloud AI models, PlugClaw introduces Confidential AI to protect your data while it is being processed by AI models. Your sensitive data can be processed inside hardware-protected confidential environments, helping keep it protected even when using powerful cloud AI.
PlugClaw also supports BYOK (Bring Your Own Key), you can choose the models you want to use and bring your own API keys. There is no requirement to be locked into a single AI vendor.
For more details on how Confidential AI works in PlugClaw, we’ve written a dedicated technical overview: https://plugos.net/blog/2026/08/confidential-ai-how-plugclaw-keeps-your-ai-work-private/
Under the hood
There is quite a bit going on inside this tiny device.
PlugClaw runs the OpenClaw agent runtime inside a dedicated virtual machine, providing an isolated environment for the AI agent and its workloads. At the same time, we wanted the agent to be able to interact with the Android world when necessary.
To make that possible, we implemented GUI agents and Android-use capabilities, allowing the isolated AI environment to interact with Android applications through a carefully controlled interface.
In other words, we wanted to achieve two things at the same time:
-
Isolation, so the AI has its own protected environment.
-
Interaction, so the AI can still work with the applications and services that people actually use.
This separation between the AI environment and the Android environment is an important part of how we think a private AI computer should be built.
We’ll share more technical details about the architecture and implementation as the software continues to evolve.
PlugClaw vs. PlugMate
We expect some of you will naturally ask: How is PlugClaw different from PlugMate?
The short answer is that they are built for different priorities.
- PlugMate is built first and foremost for security and privacy. It uses premium hardware and a hardened, isolated system designed to protect your most sensitive data and private applications. If your absolute priority is uncompromising security, privacy, and hardware-level reliability, PlugMate is the right choice.
- PlugClaw is built on the same secure foundation, but adds a complete AI agent system out of the box — designed to operate apps, handle messages, work with files, and run workflows for you. Its hardware configuration is streamlined to make AI productivity more accessible at a lighter price.
In short:
Choose PlugMate when protection comes first. Choose PlugClaw when you want a private AI that gets things done.
What’s next?
The first batch of PlugClaw hardware is already on its way, while we’re continuing to rapidly improve and refine the software. There is still a lot we want to build.
We’re looking forward to seeing what the community does with PlugClaw - and, as always, we’d love to hear your feedback, ideas, and criticism.
Let’s build a private AI computer that people actually love to use, together.
