Ordered my PlugMate today: looks interesting. At this stage I have one question: do I need a Google/gmail account to use the device? I’ll be using F-droid mainly but need to know about Play Store usage.
PlugMate is designed with security and privacy as core principles. No dedicated account is required to use PlugMate, nor do you need a Google or Gmail account. You can install applications entirely via F‑Droid. GMS (including Google Play) is an optional feature on PlugMate. A Google account is only necessary if you want to download apps from the Play Store or run other applications dependent on GMS.
