Some experiences and questions about PlugMate after using it for a short time

I think PlugMate does a great job in the following aspects:

  1. The firewall is very powerful, allowing for fine-grained control over each connection. This gives me a sense of real control over the flow of data.

  2. The virtual location simulation function is very interesting. I can joke with friends from home that I’m at an international airport.

  3. Overall, the application runs smoothly and meets my daily needs. Some risky apps or high-privilege social media are well-suited for use on PlugMate.

One point of confusion:

I tried using the duress password feature and encountered a small problem. I need to enter a specific password to unlock, then wait for a period of time to clear the data. However, after clearing the data, it doesn’t directly grant me access to the device; instead, it requires re-authentication. Would this secondary authentication be suspicious in a truly dangerous situation?I’m unsure if I’m making a mistake.

The ability to access the device after self-destruct mode is activated is a deliberate decoy design. It protects the user’s data while creating the appearance of a hardware malfunction, making it appear as if the device itself is at fault rather than intentional data destruction.PlugMate uses a full-disk encryption mechanism. The self-destruct feature works by erasing the original encryption key and generating a new one, rendering all previous data permanently inaccessible. Simultaneously, it triggers an Android factory reset. After self-destruct, even if you successfully authenticate and re-enter the system, the new encryption key cannot decrypt or recover any prior data. All previous data is unrecoverable. Please use the self-destruct feature with extreme caution.
